About Me

“I’m a teacher; all I need are minds for molding.”

  • Jack Black

Hi there! I’m Harmony, your favorite dog trainer and behavior counselor based in Woodland Hills, now providing pet training and behavior counseling in the Los Angeles area. You can think of me as your Fairy Dog Mother.

I am here to inspire, educate and apply updated codes of communications for struggling families and their animal companions, creating harmony and balance for all to enjoy.

Passions

I’m a creative entrepreneur passionate about full expression of untapped potential energy. I love to sing, rap and dance, go hiking with friends and family, take my dog out on long walks in the park, and spend quality time with my amazing daughter Sophia. I care deeply for all of the living beings I tend to on a daily basis: Luna the Pitbull, Inanna the Bengal cat, Luigi the Russian Tortoise, Bliss and River, the Boa Constrictors, Lalita the Hognose snake, Brama the Tarantula, and all of the indoor and outdoor plants. One day, I hope to operate a rescue ranch, where we would rescue and rehabilitate dogs, cats, horses, and maybe even Black and White Argentinian Tegus!

I adore live theatre and all things acting and performing, and enjoy exploring Internal Family Systems. It fascinates and inspires me to see human beings doing incredible things! And even further intrigues me to wonder how humans could benefit from working alongside and in tandem with non-human entities. The possibilities are endless. Especially once Telepathy is unlocked and available to the masses; so much potential!! I’m stoked.

I welcome new books, instructional videos and inspiring podcasts into my life. I love journaling and creative writing, as well as creating visually appealing websites and documents for my students to easily learn and expand from. When I’m relaxing, I enjoy watching musicals and cartoons, along with space and earth explorations. One day, I aim to live in a collaborative community in a self-sustaining earth ship, where all are welcome to contribute and enjoy, living free off the land.

I care so deeply about giving a voice to the voiceless. Helping people and pets experience paradigm shifts. Those wonderful “Oh! I see! I get it now!” breakthrough moments that help strengthen the bond and build incredible communication between guardian and pet! It’s highly rewarding and intrinsically motivating and inspiring and encourages me to always persevere, for a breakthrough may be just around the corner.

I am elated to be able to teach Applied Canine Cognitive Psychology and Behaviorism to students of all ages. It’s super fun! I’m stoked to teach you and your family how to communicate better with your pets by creating a brand new unique language through fun games, enticing rewards, and clear structure that the whole family can learn, teach, and enjoy together as a team from!

Mission

My Mission in life is to help as many beings as humanly possible.

As an Animal Behavior College certified Dog Trainer with over 11 years of canine handling and training experience, along with my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, I am excited to fulfill my mission for Increasing Harmonious Communication by Educating Dog Guardians in Positive Dog Training Practices.

Let’s Begin!

Goals

Achieve Willing Cooperation with pets and people in the household.

Translate the unspoken experience that people and their pets enjoy and stumble through during their symbiotic relationship journey.

Build family confidence by finding out what it is each member loves to do and doing that with them often.

Teach the whole family all about Positive Dog Training.

Create a custom Plan of Action uniquely tailored to each individual family.

Strengthen as many human-canine relationships as possible, thus keeping dogs out of shelters, off the euthanasia table, and increasing the quality of life for all beings.

Make Learning Fun!

Are you ready? Let’s Surf these beautification waves together, one training game at a time.

Teaching Luna “Over,” a fun training game done while sitting!

I claim Myself over any 3D circumstance.

Why a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology?

While at UC Davis, I chose to major in Developmental Psychology because I am fascinated with the power of our thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and how the subconscious mind operates.

I often find myself thinking of Space, Time, and Thoughts.

“Thought is Everything. Thought is a very powerful tool, beyond what most beings understand. A lot of folks, they need our help and they don’t even know it.” - Wesley Crusher- Star Trek: Prodigy

I marvel at how Thoughts, Feelings, and Behaviors are interconnected. Our thoughts influence our feelings and behaviors. Negative thoughts can lead to negative behaviors, while positive thoughts can lead to positive behaviors. Emotions play a significant role in driving actions and decision-making. Cognitive distortions and distorted thinking can lead to maladaptive behaviors. Changing thoughts can lead to changes in emotions and behaviors. Enough reinforced thoughts create a belief system that then operates in the subconscious background and quietly governs our lives, thus shaping our reality. Epic.

I find it thrilling to observe behavior, infer immediate thoughts and predict what a being may do next. Whether I am accurate or not in my assumptions, a spark of curiosity always ignites, keeping me curious and asking a lot of questions! I live for possibility paradigm shifts into higher dimensional timelines. Those beautiful “Ah ha!” moments when an outdated thought is upgraded, thus shifting the entire experience and creating a brand-new reality for that being and others to enjoy. Shifting from focusing on what is not possible to what IS POSSIBLE! Alas! So rewarding!

When you look at the possibilities instead of the problems, the future is filled with endless opportunities.

Why Dog Training?

I’ve loved dogs my whole life and always had family dogs in the home. In high school, while volunteering at a local Dog & Cat Rescue, I found my Spark for canine communication while rehabilitating a frightened, abandoned fear reactive little sweetheart, claimed to be the most aggressive dog at the rescue. We became good friends, and I knew I had found my calling: to enhance my communication skills and strengthen my bond with as many dogs and their people as possible.

Love You Brama!

I love bonding with the snakes! Love you, River!

I know I am Chosen and Loved.

Well, I’m super in-depth and detail oriented, and so I am particular about a few things, but am pretty easy-going person with a good sense of humor. I can be awkward in certain social situations, but we laugh our way through it and it’s all good.

What’s It Like to Work with Me?

Luna’s First Time Running alongside the Electric Bike! So Much FUN!!! What a great Workout! Good “Faster, Slower, and Right Here!”

I am open to Change, and ready to Embrace my True Path.

Training Methodology

When my spirit dog Miss Luna Pitunia came into my life, I admittedly made a lot of new parent mistakes and quickly realized I was in over my head. Raising her during Covid in addition to my introversion and social anxiety didn’t help. With no proper socialization, her reactivity towards other dogs began early on as a pup and progressively got worse. I tried all the tools in the toolbelt: choke collars and martingales, Halti’s, prong collars and the remote collar; paired with forceful and frustrated training methods... All of which seemed to be making matters worse. With traditional methods failing, I was crumbling under the guilt, shame and despair of the thought that I “ruined my dog” by not socializing her as a pup. I wondered if I was ever going to be able meet her needs? Suddenly I wondered if the dream relationship I had in my head was no longer possible.

She was starting to show signs of insecurity around humans, and our bond was fracturing quickly. I started researching for help and alas! When I finally stumbled upon Victoria Stilwell’s It’s Me or the Dog, I felt saved! I enrolled in her Positively Dog Training Academy and fell in love with her style and perspective on training. She showed me a much more positive, gentle and humane approach to communicating with my dog that shifted everything. I switched Luna to a chest-led harness and shifted my training strategies from force-based to love-based, and my bond with my dog has never been stronger. ^-^

I’ve since read and applied the principles in Pat Miller’s The Power of Positive Dog Training and am currently enrolled with SpiritDog Training, where I am actively participating in Steffi Trotter’s Tackling Reactivity online positive dog training course to further my skills in counseling high risk cases. After all, we are all perpetual students of Earth, and I am so grateful to continue learning, growing and evolving every day!

The Benefits of Positive Reinforcement

It’s important to remember that humans are not 100% perfect, and neither are our dogs. Our dogs don’t bite us in the ankle when we mess up. We shouldn’t punish them for messing up. They should always have a choice. Old school ways of thinking are outdated. It’s time to evolve.

We will be working with Victoria Stilwell’s Positively Pillars:

- Appreciate the dog’s point of view

- Recognize and meet the dog’s needs

- Understand and apply positive training

- Avoid fear, physical punishment and intimidation

Along with her Harmony Model, which includes

- Positive Training - Enrichment - Safety & Wellness - Communication - Socialization

When I Made the Switch

I know myself as the most important, beautiful person in my life.

Why We Strives to Increase the Feel-Good Hormones and Neurotransmitters

Together, we will discover what your dog’s needs are and how to best meet them, along with what it is your dog loves to do, and we will do that with them often. This will Build Confidence and Reduce Stress for the whole family, thus raising the Feel - Good Hormones:  Dopamine (which drives motivation, reward and focus), Oxytocin (important for social bonding and pleasure, strengthening bonds, love and Trust), Serotonin (which stabilizes mood and regulates sleep, appetite, and digestion) and Endorphins (which bring relief and relaxation while stimulating the immune system) in the brain. Good Stuff!  By learning and growing together, we will reduce shame and guilt by focusing instead on self-compassion and kindness moving forward.

I Am Good Enough.

More Than Good Enough!

Gotta Love That Neuroplasticity!

Training Games enhance neuroplasticity, the ability of neural networks in the brain to change through growth and reorganization.

Neuroplasticity refers to the brain's ability to reorganize and rewire its neural connections, enabling it to adapt and function in ways that differ from its prior state.

This process can occur in response to learning new skills, experiencing environmental changes, recovering from injuries, or adapting to sensory or cognitive deficits.

Such adaptability highlights the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of the brain, even into adulthood.

So in short, YES! an old dog CAN learn new tricks!

By playing fun and complex training games with your pet, it will help them adapt and evolve alongside you, as you both grow, play and learn new tricks together!

Huzzah!

Remember!

Mirror Neurons are neurons that fires both when an animal acts and when the animal observes the same action performed by another. Thus, the neuron "mirrors" the behavior of the other, as though the observer were itself acting.

So Be the Energy You Want to Attract and your pet is likely to follow.

I Can Do Everything Right!

Testimonials

When we found Harmony’s flyer, my family and I were feeling frustrated, embarrassed and hopeless about our new puppy’s recent misbehaviors and were wondering if we were going to be able to keep him. So the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. We emailed her right away and received a prompt response. She introduced herself, sent over a few pdf documents, and asked us to look them over and fill out the Meet and Greet Questionnaire. It was a bit lengthy, but I appreciated the attention to detail, and led me to believe she was going to be able to help us get this adorable puppy back on track. So I had my family help me fill out and and it was actually a lot of fun! I sent it back over and shortly after she sent over a tentative Game Plan which we would go over and modify in person. Pretty cool! Then we scheduled our first Meet and Greet Orientation and have been loyal students ever since.

I am Safe with Myself. Nothing I could ever Think, Feel, or Intuit is ever a threat to me in any way.

Harmony has been helping my reactive dog and playful cat get along better. We are not scared of them interacting anymore which is such a relief. She’s teaching me how to get crafty with meeting my cat’s needs, and has been teaching her cool tricks like, “Sit, Down, Sit, Spin, Twirl, Touch and Go Find.” Pretty awesome. I’m learning a lot, and it’s nice that she’s a fun, real, down-to-earth girl who makes honest mistakes like the best of us, and yet always seems to find a silver lining and creative solution, which is awesome. She’s super patient, calm and welcoming, with a hint of awkwardness, which I find relaxing, which super helps me with my social anxiety! So happy to have this awesome person consulting and guiding me! Thanks Harmony!

FAQ

What types of tools do you prefer to use (leashes, collars, harnesses, treats, clickers, etc) when working with animals?

I enjoy using chest-led harnesses and standard flat belt collars on standard 6-foot leashes or 20 foot-long lines. I enjoy using Clickers and whistles paired with high value treats to communicate with animals.

I am the most Powerful Conscious Creator, because my Consciousness is All I Experience.

What types of payment do you accept and are there Payment Plans available?

I accept Cash, Card, Checks, Zelle, PayPal, Apple and Google Pay

Yes, we can definitely set up a Payment Plan that works for you and your family.

Depends on a case-by-case scenario. If it works out, yes, we can begin training the same day as the Evaluation, I may just ask for a 10 - 20 min intermission in between so I can gather my notes before we begin training.

If I book a Meet and Greet and want to proceed forward with a Program, can we start training that same day?

What happens if I want to enroll but it says that you're not currently accepting new students?

You can still fill out the Meet and Greet Questionnaire and join the waitlist, and I will reach out as soon as a slot has opened up!

How long have you been dog training?

I have been training dogs for about 6 years now and always learning something new each day. While at University, I enrolled and graduated from Animal Behavior College, where I worked hands on shadowing and leading a group obedience class. It was awesome! Since college, I have worked at three dog training facilities and have learned so much about canine psychology and behaviorism. I am so excited to share with you everything I’ve learned and continue to learn each day!

I have what it takes.

What kind of treats do you use / recommend?

When training, avoid crunchy “bakery cookies” (they crumble and take long to chew, disrupting the training flow. and jerky / bacon pretend human food (too many byproducts).  Stick to soft treats. Single-ingredient freeze-dried treats are great! Sold at pet stores, trader joes and Costco (nutri-bites freeze dried beef liver)! Also Freeze-dried raw meals are great. Instinct Raw Meals.  And for fresh refrigerated treats, try Fresh Pet: VITAL. Great for picky pets.

For home cooking treats: Treats that work best in training are: -soft -squishy -stinky and -small. You will need to get silicone baking treat molds from amazon. Super fun!

Are some dogs harder to train than others?

Yes, some dog breeds are harder to train than others. This is usually because of the traits the dog has which they were bred for. For example, hunting dogs are typically focused on hunting and will not be distracted when following a scent. Depending on breed and family history, certain dogs may possess a higher level of energy or have been raised in an environment that doesn’t promote learning good behaviors.

Whatever the case may be, all dogs can in fact be trained.  You just have to take the necessary steps to establish trust, patience, and eventually win over your dog so that you have the best relationship possible.

Why do you only work with a certain amount of students at a time?

I limit the number of students I work with at a given time to ensure each family gets the full time and attention that a student deserves from their teacher.

Do you offer…

Board and Train?

No, I don’t typically offer board and train sessions because it does not allow for easy generalization for the dog. I find it best to train in the pet’s natural environment, so they learn that “Sit” means sit at the front door, next to you, and in front of the couch, for example. Instead of thinking “Sit” only means sit when they are at my training facility. We would still need to have In-Home sessions to help your pet fully generalize all vocab taught, so I’ve cut out the middleman and instead created fun curriculum for you and your pet to explore together, in real time every day, to expedite training results and build your families bond immensely.

Pet Sitting?

Not at the moment, but maybe in the future!

Pack Walks?

Yes! Public Pack Walks are included in the Sunflower Program to help socialize nervous and reactive pets in a safe and controlled setting, where everyone gets to share in a common goal: moving forward on the epic fun walk! And the more they walk without reacting, the more yummy treats, praise, and walk time they get! And it allows us humans a chance to connect with one another, creating more harmonious community for us all to thrive in. It’s a win win win situation for all!
